YouTube has recently announced significant changes to its eligibility requirements for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). These updates aim to provide smaller creators with more opportunities to monetize their content on the platform. With a reduced minimum subscriber count and revised watch hour criteria, YouTube is empowering creators to earn money and expand their reach.

Requirements for Monetization:

YouTube announced on June 13, 2023 that it is lowering the requirements for creators to be eligible for monetization. As of this date, creators need to have:

  • 500 subscribers
  • 3 public uploads in the last 90 days
  • Either 3,000 watch hours in the past year or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days

Previously, creators needed to have 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours. This change is designed to make it easier for new and smaller creators to make money from their videos.

We want to make it easier for creators to make a living on YouTube," said Neal Mohan, YouTube's chief product officer. "By lowering the monetization requirements, we're opening up the opportunity for more creators to earn money from their work.

The new monetization policy is being rolled out in phases. It is currently available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, and South Korea. It will be rolled out to other countries in the coming months.

YouTube's new monetization policy has been met with mixed reactions. Some creators are excited about the opportunity to make money from their videos sooner. Others are concerned that the lower requirements will lead to a decrease in the quality of content on YouTube.

Only time will tell how YouTube's new monetization policy will impact the platform. However, it is clear that YouTube is committed to making it easier for creators to make money from their videos.
